Mr. John Mann’s “Found On The Street” Rule For Teaching Activities
Experienced teachers know what lessons should “look like” and can take for granted the myriad decisions they make and the refined procedures underlying their successes, especially when communicating lessons to colleagues. I try to let the writer side of me take-over when preparing materials for publication and walk readers through my activities with extensive directions. This bit of advice given to me by Mr. John Mann of York College drives my education writing, “Your activity should meet the ‘found on the street rule.’ A teacher finding your activity should be able to use it without talking to you or having to go somewhere else for help.” I hope you find I have been true to John’s advice.
