Book Blurbs– December 2025

Part of my new job at Browseabout Books, an independent bookstore in Rehoboth Beach, is composing book blurbs for titles I would recommend to book buyers, and I just submitted three to appear on the store’s shelves. These are titles I have read or reread recently, and I thought you might like to take a look…

Still Possible by David Whyte

Contemporary poet and philosopher David Whyte asks what he calls “beautiful questions” to lead readers into conversations with the self. His sparse yet vivid writing inspires us to engage life as an ongoing conversation, gives us courage to consider and embrace changes, and fills us with hope for better days ahead.

The Pilgrimage by Paulo Coelho

Coelho recounts his pilgrimage along the Camino de Santiago with a voice so clear and captivating each step takes readers farther into a world where the line between spiritual and tangible are hard to discern. Coelho’s guide, Petrus, leads him on a journey of self-revelation which, in turn, offers the same to readers.

The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson

Larson calls upon primary sources such as Mary Chesnut’s journals and Major Robert Anderson’s personal papers to build a moment-by-moment, human-to-human, narrative of South Carolina’s siege of Fort Sumter. The bloodiest war in U.S. history began with a bloodless yet highly personal battle over a tiny island in Charleston Harbor.

If any of these works tickle your fancy, please consider ordering through your local independent bookseller, or even checkout Browseabout Books’ website. Our independent booksellers offer so much to local communities, from author visits, to readings, to outreach for local schools and organizations. Purchasing local will build our communities and personal libraries at the same time.
