Tobie is approximately one hundred and eleven years old. No one really knows his human age, because he is a fifteen and a half year-old dog (human-to-dog-year conversion ratios vary). My wife and I do know Tobie has become quite wise through his life of travel and intense introspection. Here are some of his most poignant observations and life mantras:
- sleeping can be hard work, so take a nap after you wake up;
- a little barking equals a treat, and a lot of barking equals a better treat;
- friends bring joy to your life, like my friends Chase, Pinky, Pumpkin, River and Skylar;
- when you find people who love you, a warm bed, and good food, stay as long as you can;
- take a walk every day, even if it is in circles, and
- don’t worry if your legs are tired, your hearing has gone, and your vision is blurry, because you are still strong if your heart is filled with love.
What does your list of life observations and mantras look like?
