Memory cards and stacks of scribbles from our trip to Niagra Falls continue to remind me collecting raw material is only the beginning of a time-intensive process. This is not, necessarily, a bad thing. Travel’s initial thrills always inspire and increase my productivity, yet time’s passage tempers the eye and helps me disregard cliched thoughts recorded feverishly through star-struck eyes. Three months after our drive to Canada, I return to what I had collected with a new perspective. I’m culling images and notes possessing unique perspectives I couldn’t have identified as such earlier in the summer. Fortunately, I didn’t fall prey to early impulses to publish drafts or photos. I guess I will always fight the temptation to let the water carry me over the falls.
